WELCOME
Like most websites, this is the cyber-equivalent of a market stall - a showcase for what I've done professionally and what, based on those years of experience, I have to offer. But, the hard-sell aside, it is also a place where I hope you will find material that is informative, stimulating and diverting, whether it's an article, a photo or a painting.
A quick run-down…
Publications page (Articles/Novels): I've been lucky enough over the years to live and work in many parts of the world, mostly at other people's expense. Here I've collected a selection of my newspaper and magazine features - and books. And of course, like any freelance, I'm always happy to be commissioned.
Training page (Courses/Case Studies/Interpreters): Not just the sort of courses and consultancy I provide but the principles and stories behind them.
And…
Gallery page (Photos/Art): I'm a compulsive stills photographer - a natural extension of my work in television. What you will find here are neither the contents of the Delahaye family album nor the sort of glossy shots that appear in holiday brochures. Rather, I try to capture the elusive atmosphere of a place or the freakishness of a situation or event. Or just the unexpected, incongruous or counter-intuitive.
I'm also a dabbler in the black arts of pencil and brush - another off-shoot of working in an essentially 'visual' industry. Apart from the satisfaction of capturing an image - the magic, if you like - I'm intrigued by the undervalued role of craftsmanship. So here, linked to the pictures, are commentary and analysis. Quite a bit of self-doubt too.
Monpazier page: This is devoted, in words and photos, to the extraordinary medieval French village in which my wife and I were lucky to live from 2013 until early 2020.
If you have any observations - positive or negative but preferably not abusive - do get in touch via the Contact page.
And thanks for looking in. I hope you like what you find... and find what you like.
